My weekly word isn't arriving
Words arrive by local notification, so the usual causes are on the device: check Settings › Notifications › Parlance is allowed, and that Focus modes aren't silencing it. Opening the app also re-checks and repairs the schedule — if a word was due, it will be waiting on the first screen even when the notification didn't show.
Why only one word a week?
Because that's the pace at which a word moves from recognised to used. A daily word is read once and gone; a weekly one is still with you on Thursday when the chance to use it appears. The cadence is the product.
The pronunciation sounds off
Pronunciation is spoken by the iOS speech synthesiser using transcriptions from published lexicons. For a few rare words no trustworthy transcription exists; the app then lets the synthesiser guess rather than inventing one, and hides the written transcription. You can switch between American and British pronunciation in settings. Voice quality follows the voices installed on your device — higher quality voices can be added in Settings › Accessibility › Spoken Content.
Where do the words come from?
From the source you picked. For a show or podcast, Parlance selects words characteristic of how that source speaks — it describes the register, and never invents quotations. For your own pasted text, each word is shown with the actual passage it came from, verified against your document.
How do I delete my data?
Delete the app. Everything — your word list, progress, and settings — lives on the device, so removing the app removes it. There is no account to close. See the privacy policy for the one case where data leaves your device.
